Basically nowadays, emails play an important role in our lives, be it in schools, colleges or offices. whenever we open our inboxes, we see lots of useless emails that we don’t even open for days or months. This junk is responsible for a huge amount of energy stored as data, and the least we can do is delete them. hence these mails must be removed, and here comes the role of our project. So basically, we are going to make an extension that will remove all these unwanted and useless mails from our Gmail account without having a risk of automatically deleting the important mails.

The Problem: The calculations as per Ec02 greetings, the text-based emails emit around 4 grams of Co2e i.e., carbon dioxide equivalent. Which is almost same as the impact of driving 200 miles in a gas-powered vehicle. Also, according to the data centre knowledge, the data centres account for almost 1 percent of the complete electricity that is being consumed by the whole world. It might not be a lot but when we see the data centres used by the big companies like google, amazon etc it looks like this will grow as time passes by. We can’t stop google from creating more data but at our level, deleting is the easiest way in contributing towards reducing the carbon footprint on our computer. Here comes the role of our project.

What’s the future: The project in itself is very limited to its task and we think that this might not be very effective to grow into a complete company or a big firm. But there are a few aspects that can be thought about. Our extension will be currently developed and handled by us only and there will be no other party involved in it. But if we plan on getting some more things done using the same extension, we can increase our area of interest and maybe get our product monetized. We can have some free basic features and rest can be made on a pay basis, be it monthly or yearly. Also, since our project works on Gmail as an add on, if we are able to get a good market, we might consider selling our product to google itself. Google can definitely optimize this project much better for their own usage on Gmail than us. So this could be a possible way to get a good share of profit and we can also get a good recognition for our work. This is basically a thought and with time new things or new ways come up, so that is it for now.

For developing an add-on for Google Workspace, we need to be acquainted with Google Apps Script, which is freely available to be learnt on Google’s website. Furthermore, we will use JSON for building a Chrome Extension of the model, and basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript for its working.
